Amy Schumer Reveals She Accidentally Named Her Son Genital!
Amy Schumer has revealed that she legally changed her son’s name just a month before his first birthday and the reason is sure to make you laugh.
The 38 year old comedian welcomed son Gene Attell Fischer with husband Chris Fisher in May 2019. Speaking on the podcast “3 Girls, 1 Keith” recently, Amy said she and Chris decided to officially change the name they’d picked out for their boy after realising it sounded too much like “Genital”.
Gene’s middle name of Attell was a nod to Amy’s friend and fellow comedian Dave Attell. But of course, put Gene and Attell together and well, you have a name that sounds very much like genital!
“So do you guys know that Gene, our baby’s name, is officially changed? It’s now Gene David Fischer,” Amy said. “It was Gene Attell Fischer, but we realised that we, by accident, named our son ‘genital.’ Gene Attell sounds like genital.”
At the time of the baby’s birth many were quick to point out the unfortunate naming situation and now the celebrity couple fully agree.
After revealing his original full name on Instagram, many of Amy’s followers at the time pointed out how it sounded.
“i came back to check if his name was real and oh boy,” wrote user @_piperhill.
“it’s been 6 months and she hasn’t come out to say this name is a joke,” wrote @_eleanor_.
“You should be jailed for naming your kid this,” wrote @waliamita_.
“My mom pointed that out to me actually!” Claudia O’Doherty, a guest on the podcast said. “My mom was like, ‘Amy’s called her son genital.’ And I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ And then she was right.”
Though Amy said her friend Attell was “so honored” to have her son named after him, she said “David” is better, because it’s also her dad’s middle name.
Pretty sure Gene will be thanking his parents too once he’s old enough to realise what he was once named!
