Patti Newton Shares Photo of Husband Bert Following Leg Amputation Surgery
Aussie icon Bert Newton looks to be in good spirits as wife Patti Newton shares photo of him recovering in hospital from leg amputation surgery.
The photo shared on Instagram shows a beaming Bert with his grand daughter Lola, 7 (daughter of Lauren Newton and husband Matt Welsh who also have Sam, 12, Eva, 10, Monty, three, daughter Perla, two, and baby Alby who was born in 2020.)
Patti captioned the photo: “I wanted to show you Bert’s doing OK, still flirting with the nurses and having a laugh. Spending time with his darling Lola. And taking a day at a time. A long journey but he’s blessed with so much love.”
Bert Newton. 82 had to have his leg amputated earlier this year after an infected toe got out of hand.
“It got worse … he was seeing doctors and specialists and they couldn’t seem to get it right, it kept on spreading,” close friend and entertainment reporter Peter Ford said in an interview. “Basically he was told last week, you have a couple of months to live, or if you have your leg amputated, you’ll probably have a few years. So, he agreed to have the leg amputated on Saturday.”
Ford however says the Newtons are conscious to not have people view their journey as a “sad” story.
“They said, ‘We had a choice. Other people don’t have a choice. Bert wants to keep on living, because he adores Patti, his children and his grandkids, and he wants to have as much time as he can with them,’” Ford said.
The Aussie entertainer has been through several health issues in the past. In 2011 he battled a serious bout of pneumonia while in 2012 he underwent quadruple bypass surgery.
