Tom Hanks Shared A Photo Of His Toast With Vegemite And Everyone Is Shook!
Tom Hanks stunned the world last week when he revealed he and wife Rita Wilson tested positive for coronavirus. Now the much loved Hollywood star is stunning us for a completely different reason – his use of Vegemite!
Tom posted a photo to his Twitter on Sunday which featured a little stuffed kangaroo holding the Australian flag, a glass of water, and two slices of toast smeared with Vegemite along with the caption “Thanks to the Helpers. Let’s take care of ourselves and each other. Hanx.”
The pair are currently isolated at Gold Coast University Hospital in Queensland, Australia, where they had been doing pre-production on Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic.

For all those non-Aussies out there, Vegemite is an iconic Australian spread made from yeast extract left over from the brewing process. People have a love hate relationship with the spread and the world is now divided into how much Vegemite is the right amount to spread on your toast.
Commenters on Tom’s toast picture seem to be mortified at the amount the actor has chosen to put on his bread. While his bread appears toasted, not a smidge of butter can be seen and what’s worse, there’s enough of the brown stuff to resurface a whole freeway!
For those who are unfamiliar with the art of vegemite on toast, convention says only a small smear of the paste should be applied to buttered toast. Vegemite is VERY salty and applying more than that typically lends to a less than favourable experience.
Here are some of the mortified comments left on Tom’s twitter account:
Great to see our mate @tomhanks is being taken care of in isolation but we have to say bit of a thick spread there mate *cue the sound of thousands of Australians telling him he’s put waaaaaaay too much vegemite on that toast*😂 In all seriousness, get better soon Tom! #COVIDー19 https://t.co/IqXfeyuWMT

Dear Mr Hanks,
Here’s a helpful step-by-step guide for Vegemite toast. pic.twitter.com/1BGNAxhqCb— Peter Murphy (@PeterWMurphy1) March 15, 2020
Aaargh! Maaate. You’ve gotta be a Yank trying to impress your mates. No Aussie would do that. Like, really.

I think the expression on the kangaroos face says it all. That is genuine alarm and concern. pic.twitter.com/ljkgVv5TCr

Since the photo was posted, Tom Hank’s son Colin has reached out to give his opinion and he’s definitely siding with the majority of Australia!
I’ve been saying “That’s way too much for one piece of toast.” to him for years.
