McDonald’s New McChicken Range Review

I love McDonald’s! When I was a child my mum used to buy me a Happy Meal as a treat and that’s when my love affair began and it has continued to this day! It’s like a relationship that you know isn’t good for you and you try and break up but you always go running back! I have succumbed to McDonald’s, it is going to be in my life occasionally and when I have it I try to enjoy it guilt-free!

When Mums Lounge put out a call for bloggers to take part in a review of the new McChicken range I couldn’t put my hand up quick enough and the fact that the restaurant was in close proximity to my house was the icing on the cake. Win, win. I wasn’t sure what to expect on the day so it was lovely to see two bloggers I knew ‘My Mummy Daze’ and ‘My Little Drummer Boys’ on arrival. We were all quite surprised by the scale of the event. There were so many crew, lights and cameras with a big area sectioned off for us. Not what I was expecting at all! I was thinking it would be more of a market research type scenario.

We had to sample the burgers and then talk between ourselves and to camera about what we thought of them. We were miked up and seated and asked a few questions and we took turns to respond. During the filming myself and My Mummy Daze got attacks of the giggles as you do. We all had fun, it was a nice way to spend a few hours and the crew were lovely. I could get very used to it…maybe I could have a new career as an official McDonald’s taster…sampling burgers all over the world? Anyway moving on..

First up was the McChamp, my favourite by far. It was a chicken breast in crispy coating with relish served in a fresh wheatgerm bun. I loved everything about it! The relish was so tasty and complimented the burger perfectly. The chicken was succulent and the coating was delicious. I would have been quite happy to eat the whole burger but had to leave room for the other two.

Up next was the McGrilled. Not a fan. I know McDonald’s do healthy options which is great but that’s not the reason I go. I want a full McDonald’s experience with a tasty burger, fries, the works. The McGrilled didn’t do it for me; it was bland and tasteless with no discerning qualities. There was no sauce to spruce it up a bit and hardly any salad. Next…

McSpicy. I knew I wasn’t going to like this one. I hate spicy food and avoid anything chilli related. So in McDonald’s defence I’m not the best person to judge this burger. As soon as I bit into it I couldn’t breathe, it was so hot and that’s all I remember. The spice is actually cooked into the burger so there was no escaping it. The other bloggers didn’t like it either so it wasn’t just me. All you could taste was the hot spice and I had the smallest bite. I hated it! Sorry Macca’s.

So to summarise the only thing I loved about all the burgers was the wheatgerm buns. The McChamp won hands down for me! Glad it’s now a permanent menu item! Now when is the milkshake review?
