Jennifer Aniston’s mum, Nancy Dow passed away on Wednesday at age 79. She had reportedly suffered a series of strokes and had lost the ability to speak and walk.
Aniston, 47 had a very complicated and distant relationship with her mother although reports say the actress had visited her for the first time in five years on May 12th. A source close to Aniston has said- ‘Jen must have had a wake-up call and wanted to see her mother one last time before she passes.’
Aniston’s complicated relationship with her mum meant the two hardly saw each other or even spoke. It’s been said that Dow was extremely critical of her actress daughter which is why they were never close. Aniston has spoken about the breakdown of their relationship and tried to identify what the cause was.
‘She was critical. She was very critical of me. Because she was a model, she was gorgeous, stunning,’ Aniston said last year of her mother. ‘I wasn’t. I never was. I honestly still don’t think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine. She was also very unforgiving. She would hold grudges that I just found so petty.’
Things got even worse when her mum published a tell-all book, From Mother and Daughter to Friends: A Memoir, about Aniston’s life in 1999. Aniston saw this as the final betrayal and felt it was just a way for her mum to make money off her fame.
