Mariah Carey is just one of the hundreds of celebrities who have reacted to the shock death of music legend Prince.
The singer spoke with a reporter backstage after her concert in Paris, France on Thursday, where she opened up about the singer-songwriter’s untimely death at 57.
“It’s such a loss that he’s gone,” Carey shared. “I’ll never get over it.”
Carey’s and Prince got to know each other “later in life” and even collaborated on a song, although that project never saw the light of day.
“He helped me through so many moments where I needed somebody to guide me through,” Carey said. “He was just a true genius… There will never be anybody else like him.”
Reacting to news of his death, Carey shared a throwback photo of herself with the star on Instagram. She captioned the photo, “Genius, legend, inspiration, friend. The world will miss you.”
Carey also paid tribute to the artist during her concert, asking for a moment of silence to honor his memory.
“He was a friend to me,” Carey told her fans. “He was an incredible person, if you didn’t ever get to meet him, and I’m sure his music has touched every single person in here.”
