Actor Bill Paxton Dies Suddenly Following Complications From Surgery

Actor Bill Paxton, best known for his roles in Aliens, Titanic and Apollo 13, has died aged 61.

The actor died suddenly on Saturday after undergoing heart surgery. Reports say Paxton suffered a fatal stroke during post-operation complications.

In a statement, Paxton’s family said “It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away from surgery. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable.

A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker.

Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father,” the statement continued.

Paxton appeared in a number of films over the course of his career, including The Terminator, Twister, Apollo 13, True Lies, and Aliens. He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2012 for his work in HBO’s miniseries Hatfields & McCoys, and for a Golden Globe in 2010 for Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Series Drama for Big Love.

Reports close to the family say Paxton told a friend he was worried about the ‘major surgery’ he was facing, but was optimistic he would survive the ‘ordeal.’

Speaking of his illustrious acting career, Paxton said it wasn’t the work that was the hardest, but the times between jobs. “You know all the time I’ve been in this business which is a long, long time now, I go from having incredible days like shooting the part of Sam Houston and then all of a sudden I’m home and I’m out of work and it’s two o’clock in the afternoon, I’m in my boxer shorts watching Turner Classic Movies,” he said. “And all I can tell you is, thank God for Turner Classic Movies and Robert Osborn. ”

The actor was married to Kelly Rowan for a year in 1979. He later remarried in 1987 to Louise Newbury. The couple, who have been together for 30 years, had two kids, James, an 22-year-old actor and Lydia Paxton, 19.

RIP Bill and thank you for your amazing contribution to the movie and TV industry over the course of your career and life.
