Emily Blunt Will Play Mary Poppins In The Upcoming Sequel

Who doesn’t love Mary Poppins? There’s now been official confirmation that the sequel, titled Mary Poppins Returns, will star Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Perfect casting!

Blunt has been cast in the main role of Mary Poppins which was originally played by Julie Andrews and Miranda will play a new character, a street lamplighter named Jack. Miranda is a hugely successful actor on Broadway having recently played the lead in Hamilton, which he conceived and wrote.
The film will take place in a Depression-era London (which stays true to the original setting) and will follow a grown up Jane and Michael Banks along with Michael’s three children. After suffering a personal loss, the family is visited by Mary Poppins and Jack who help them rediscover the joys and excitement within the magic of life.
The film will be directed by Rob Marshall from Into the Woods. “I am truly humbled and honored to be asked by Disney to bring P.L. Travers’ further adventures to the screen. The iconic original film means so much to me personally, and I look forward to creating an original movie musical that can bring Mary Poppins, and her message that childlike wonder can be found in even the most challenging of times, to a whole new generation,” says Marshall.
We are so excited for the sequel of this much loved classic and only hope Blunt will be just as amazing as Julie Andrews was in the original. Can’t wait to see her gliding across the London skies with her umbrella and sensible shoes.
