George Michael Will Finally Be Laid to Rest on Sunday with Greek Orthodox Burial
Now that George Michael’s cause of death has been revealed and the death certificate officially released his family can lay him to rest.
The death certificate used his birth name, Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, but referred to the star being otherwise known as George Michael and the body was released to his sister, Panayiota Panayiotou, according to the public documents.
It’s been nearly three months since the world lost their beloved pop singer who died on Christmas day last year. After much speculation that drugs were involved, the singer’s official cause of death was recorded on the certificate as ‘dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and a fatty liver.’
The funeral, which will most likely be held on Sunday, will be a traditional Greek Orthodox burial that will be officiated by “top Greek Orthodox clerics” in the United Kingdom.
Although the British media are saying Michael will most likely be laid to rest at Highgate Cemetery where his mother Lesley is buried, the family has kept all details of location quiet.
Following his death, it’s been revealed the much loved singer did a tremendous amount of philanthropy work- including his passionate support of a Greek charity that supports people with Thalassemia, an blood disorder that has affected many of his own friends and family who hail from his native Cyprus.
Even months after the singer’s death, the scene outside his home continues to be a pilgrimage site for beloved fans from throughout the world.
RIP George. You are very much missed.
