Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is used to giving out advice for followers of her Goop blog but it seems the mother of two needs some guidance herself when it comes to her tween daughter Apple.
The 43 year old actress revealed she is struggling with how to manage her daughter as she approaches adolescence. Although Gwyneth wants to allow Apple to express herself freely she is finding hard to maintain a healthy balance of discipline and experimentation for the 12 year old. Decisions like how short she can wear her skirt or when she should start wearing make up are very real issues that are consuming the actress at the moment. Gwyneth is also worried about the increase of provocative images being posted online by women who claim they are doing it in the name of feminism. i.e.. Kim Kardashian and her infamous nude selfies.
Gwyneth spoke at the China Exchange in London this week saying: ‘It is concerning because I think there is a very denigrating set of imagery and behaviours happening. Women are so powerful and so capable and to have it inferred that you have to generate yourself in any way to be likeable is abhorrent to me. With my daughter I try to find a balance of being an example for her as a woman who works and tries not to go out in public naked.
I am her mum but at the same time I want her to express herself. Sometimes it is hard when she is wearing something really, really short and a lot of make-up and I have to resist the instinct as I want her to experiment and find her own identity. It is an interesting balance right now being a mother of a coming-of-age girl as there are a lot of conflicting messages in our culture.’
Among her discussions on raising her daughter, Gwyneth also opened about about her eating habits and surprised everyone by stating that although she follows a clean eating lifestyle- she still indulges in french fries everyday! Who knew?
