Its been 18 months since Aussie actress Jessica Marais split from her former fiancee James Stewart. Since then the two actors have been co-parenting their four year old daughter Scout.
The talented actress says she has not always handled motherhood perfectly as she sometimes struggles to keep up with her busy work schedule. In a recent interview with InStyle magazine the 31-year-old said: ‘I’ve been growing as a mother from day one.’
‘I haven’t been perfect at it and there are lots of times I have absolutely thought “I don’t know what I’m doing, I’m really overwhelmed, I’m really scared”’, said the The Wrong Girl star.
She continued: ‘And then there are times when intuitively I’ve thought I can make really good decisions around my daughter whether or not other people agree.’
The ‘other people’ Jessica seems to be talking about is her ex James, who recently said Jessica was too busy to look after her daughter despite the co-parenting arrangement.
The actor claimed: ‘I am the full-time carer for Scout as Jess is busy working and travelling a lot.’
The harsh and hurtful comments took Jessica by surprise and she says she was ‘completely blindsided and hurt’ by James’s comments.
‘Jess was shocked when the story came out,’ a source said. ‘She was more than surprised that James put her down in such a public way.’
The pair were engaged in October 2010 and welcomed their daughter Scout in May 2012.
