After weeks of intrigue and mystery, Kanye West managed to debut his new season Yeezy 3 clothing line for Adidas as well as his album titled The Life Of Pablo. This momentous occasion was held at Madison Square Garden on Thursday and was the type of spectacle we’ve come to expect from West.
A low-key West dressed casually in a black cap and burgundy long-sleeve T-shirt played M.C. for the event from the floor where he’d plugged in a laptop to blast his new music at a deafening volume.
The models looked homeless and were dressed in the muted tones we’ve come to expect from the Yeezy line. Lots of sheer tops and fur lined hoodies. Dresses and skirts looked like they had been torn by a savage dog. The range has been described as new post-apocalyptic sportswear. I still call it Derelique chic.
Most of the models were anonymous except for Naomi Campbell, Veronica Webb and Liya Kebede.
Let’s not kid ourselves though and pretend that it was all about the clothes. What the show was really about was the Kardashian-Jenner procession that preceded the fashion event. Just after 4:30 p.m the extended Kardashian West family — a newly blonde Kim, Kris, Kendall, North, Caitlyn Jenner and so on made their way to their seats all dressed in Yeezy 3 outfits. West himself walked Lamar Odom, the former N.B.A. player and husband of Khloé Kardashian, to his seat; it was Odom’s first public appearance since he was found unconscious last year at a Nevada brothel.
“If y’all like any of the songs feel free to dance, move,” Mr. West told the crowd. And if his Twitter account is to be believed the album was finished only this week. “If y’all like it afterwards feel free to cheer,” he added.
