Kristen Bell Shares Controversial Method She Uses To Get Her Three Year Old To Sleep!
Ask any new parent what they miss most about life before kids and we can guarantee you SLEEP will be at the top of the list!
Your life quickly becomes a juggling act between trying to get your kids to sleep and then making sure they STAY asleep long enough for you to actually get some shut eye too.
Actress Kristen Bell recently shared a story in an interview with Parents Magazine where she spoke about a new method her and husband Dax Shepard have implemented to make sure their three year old daughter Delta gets to sleep. Because let’s be honest guys, those child-free hours you have to plonk yourself in front of Netflix before falling asleep out of sheer exhaustion are GOLDEN!
“Look, I’ll get controversial,” Bell said in the interview. “My 3-year-old Delta decided to stop sleeping about nine months ago. And every night, when we put her to bed, she turns the lights on, which annoys 4-year-old Lincoln, and she will move furniture, and she bangs on the door with different, hard toys. We switched the door knob. We turned the lock on the outside,” she said.
Now before you freak out, read on and see exactly how this method works! After all we have a hunch Kristen and Dax have this parenting game down pat and wouldn’t do anything to endanger their kids- surely.
“I’m sorry, I know that’s controversial, but we lock it when she gets in there, and we stand outside and say, ‘We love you, we will talk to you in the morning, but now, it’s time for sleep.’ And after about 10 minutes, she’ll wind herself down. And then, before we go to bed, obviously, we unlock it,” the actress explained.
See! The child isn’t locked in for the entire night- just a few minutes until she settles down and puts herself to sleep. And while the method may not be for everyone, parents need to do exactly what works for their family without having to answer to anyone else. Provided the kids aren’t in any danger of course.
However there are those who believe Kristen is being highly irresponsible and took to the comments section of the interview to let the star know exactly what they thought of her parenting skills.
What the hell is wrong with all of you?! Locking a kid inside a room?! Would YOU like to be locked in a room?! What does that teach a child?! If her kid is doing something, she has her reasons, and that’s what should be addressed.
This is disgusting. Yes, I will judge. Dont want to listen to your child and be there when they need you? Dont have one.
To the man who I’ve known for an eternity yet learn new things about everyday; who has been with me through thick and thin(and loved my 47lbs of baby weight); who is as interested in PDA as I am; who tattooed my last name on his ring finger beacuse he hates jewelry; who always puts up our Xmas lights; and who never fails to mock my red carpet pose. I love u with my whole ♥️@daxshepard
No. No. No. Do NOT lock anyone’s door from the outside. Getting toddlers to bed is tough, but locking any person in a room is an unacceptable hazard. I know she said they unlock it before bed. But, as a parent, and as a person, I know that it is completely possible for them to fall asleep and forget. Fire, Intruder, choking, night terror, etc., etc., Don’t do this.
Three years ago today. 47lbs heavier. Getting through painful contractions with backrubs and breathing. Occasionally swinging from the IV pole to try and feel sexy and open up my hips. After 36 hours of labor I met a girl i love more than all the molecules in all the world. Happy birthday, Delta. Love, mom #meshpanties
While others praised the couple for actually keeping their children safe.
Isn’t having the lock on the OUTSIDE of a child’s room SAFER?? If there was a fire, earthquake or god forbid an intruder and the child is locked in the room with the lock on the inside, how much time would you lose looking for the key or trying to break the door down? Lock on the outside… instant access to their children and no time lost.
What do you think? Have you ever gone to extreme measures to make sure your children go to sleep and stay that way?
