Lindsay Lohan deleted all her pictures from Instagram this week and left fans confused by posting an Arabic message on the app.
The 30 year old actress wrote “Alaikum salam” (“peace be unto you”) on her bio page which is an Arabic greeting used socially in Islamic ceremony. The greeting prompted some Twitter users to speculate that Lohan, who was raised Catholic, had decided to follow Islam.
Last year the actress (see below) was seen carrying a copy of the Koran on the first day of serving her community service at a New York children’s centre. It sparked speculation then that she had converted to Islam. However Lohan stated at the time that she was simply studying the text.
“I’m a very spiritual person and I’m really open to learning,” she said last year. “America has portrayed holding a Koran in such a different way to what it actually is. We all believe in something and at the end of the day it all ties to a god or a spiritual adviser.”
The Mean Girls actress also discussed why she was carrying the Muslim holy book in an interview with Turkey’s Habertürk TV in October. “In America I was going through a lot with past things that had happened to me over a 10-year span, and my very close friends who have been there for me a lot in London are Saudi, and they gave me the Quran and I brought it to New York because I was learning, and it opened doors for me to experience spiritually, to find another true meaning,” she said.
A source close to the actress says Lohan is looking to turn her life around with something of an image overhaul. “Lindsay is in a period of renewal, and is very excited for what the new year holds.”
