Aussie model Megan Gale has opened up about the heartbreaking miscarriage she suffered last year in May while eight weeks pregnant.
The mum of one has spoken about her experience in a bid to help women deal with the pain of losing a baby. It is still very much a taboo subject to talk about and yet it affects one in every four women in Australia.
“There have been plenty of times in my life I’ve had to suck things up, but this was the most challenging time I’ve had to do that,” she said.
Gale recounted how she had to fly to Milan for a photoshoot following the procedure.
“I came home from having a procedure, hugged my boy for a few hours and had to pack a bag and go. Not being around loved ones was really hard.”
It took Gale six months to conceive her first child with her AFL player partner Shaun Hampson. who are the proud parents of 2 year old son River. Gale,41 didn’t expect to fall pregnant so quickly second time round though.
“About 10 days out from my eight week scan, I just felt in my bones something wasn’t right,” she said during the interview with InStyle magazine.
“I went into the scan and the obstetrician moved the ultrasound around my belly. At one point he just stopped and said he was sorry but the baby was gone.”
These are are perhaps the hardest words a woman will ever have to hear. To go in for an ultrasound filled with hope and anticipation waiting to hear your baby’s heartbeat only to walk out filled with loss and emptiness is a truly soul destroying moment.
“As hard as it is to open up about something so heartbreaking, I’ve done so in the hope we can all exercise a bit more sensitivity and consideration and awareness when it comes to broaching the subject of pregnancy and conception — and also perhaps giving women a little bit more strength when it comes to dealing with miscarriage and everything that surrounds it,” Gale concluded.
