Fitness trainer Michelle Bridges has admitted she is super strict when it comes to her son’s diet.
The 46 year old spoke to Channel Seven’s The Daily Edition recently where she opened up about a particular time when she literally had to wrestle a cookie out of her one year old son Axel’s hand. It happened during a party to celebrate her son’s first birthday, that she shares with husband Steve “The Commando” Willis.
“We had a little barbecue to celebrate Axel’s birthday and we did have a carrot cake, which you could say was borderline healthy,” Bridges said. “I did have to wrestle Axel to the ground when he was given a cookie that my babysitter made that had little lollies on it. She was like, ‘Can I?’ and I literally had to wrestle him to the ground to get half of it off him.”
While speaking of her pregnancy later on in life, Bridges says the reason she was able to fall pregnant easily at 44 was due to regular exercise and healthy eating.
“I feel very lucky,” she told Who magazine last year. “But I also feel all of my years and all of Steve’s years of looking after ourselves and taking care of our health and our bodies, it just goes to show. For someone my age for it to happen so quickly it’s obviously got to do with good health.”
Bridge’s comments about Axel’s healthy eating may be controversial but she’s not alone when it comes to being strict with junk food. MasterChef judge George Calombaris doesn’t let his son eat McDonald’s.
“In life, we’ve all got religions. Some are Buddhists, some are this, some are that, whatever, and we respect people in Australia for whatever religion that is. For me, I look at food like my religion and I have my beliefs in food,” Calombaris said last year. “My son knows … we’ll drive past a certain fast food chain and he’ll go, ‘that’s bad in there, isn’t it, Dad?’ and I explain it’s not about bad, it’s about having choices in life.”
