Nicole Kidman has joined a star studded cast of leading actresses in posing for the much coveted Pirelli Calendar for 2017.
The photo shoot was done in black and white and features the stars without make up. In a world of filters and photo shopped images, this shoot has been described as “rallying against false beauty standards”.
Uma Thurman, Julianne Moore, Robin Wright, Jessica Chastain and Helen Mirren all took part in the calendar and posed for the pics which centred around “natural beauty and femininity”.
Kidman, 49 described the shoot as empowering saying going without makeup is how her husband Keith Urban prefers her.
“Female power is the courage to be yourself, to be able to walk into a room and be yourself, Kidman said. “My husband totally prefers me with no make-up on and at my most natural. We’re allowed to have that choice and it’s a very important message to give to not only little girls but little boys.
We’re so used to airbrushing these days so you’re not used to seeing people not have a perfect image.”
“There’s an enormous amount of judgment and the more we can strip that away the better.”
Julianne Moore, 55 also posed for the shoot and added: “I had no make-up on, messy hair and puffy eyes from just waking up.”
Helen Mirren, 71 said the shoot gave a powerful message to young women today.
“The reality is we live, we love, we continue, we contribute and that’s the role of women,” Mirren said.
“It’s incredibly challenging for young girls these days and we must remind them that life goes on for a long time and you’ll be many things in that time.”
