Oprah Winfrey Reveals Why She Doesn’t Regret Not having Children!
Oprah Winfrey recently spoke to Housekeeping magazine in the UK about her decision not to have children.
The 63 year old media mogul says she feels she is already a mother figure to her 172 girls in her Leadership Academy program. Winfrey says the girls at the Johannesburg boarding school in South Africa fulfil her maternal needs.
“I didn’t want babies. I wouldn’t have been a good mom for babies,” Winfrey says in the April issue. “I don’t have the patience. I have the patience for puppies, but that’s a quick stage!”
“When people were pressuring me to get married and have children, I knew I was not going to be a person that ever regretted not having them, because I feel like I am a mother to the world’s children,” she says. “Love knows no boundaries. It doesn’t matter if a child came from your womb or if you found that person at age two, 10 or 20. If the love is real, the caring is pure and it comes from a good space, it works.”
“It is more rewarding that I would ever have imagined,” she says about working with the girls at the boarding school. “I was doing this to help them, but it has brought a light to my life that I can’t explain.”
Winfrey did give birth to a son when she was 14 who tragically died in hospital a few weeks later.
“If I had kids, my kids would hate me,” Winfrey said during an interview in 2013. “They would have ended up on the equivalent of the Oprah show talking about me; because something in my life would have had to suffer and it would’ve probably been them.”
