Ruby Rose says she had thoughts of transitioning into a male when she was younger.
The 30 year old actress spoke to The Edit magazine last month where she opened up about her sexuality and the struggles she faced growing up. The stunning brunette said she always felt different even from a very young age.
“Everyone had Barbies; I had Ninja Turtles and Superman,” she says in the magazine. “I was crazy about Archie comics. I played footie with the boys.”
Rose suffered throughout high school with many of her classmates bullying her simply because she wasn’t like them. Struggling to fit in, Rose tried being more ‘feminine’ by growing her hair and wearing more make up but that didn’t stop the constant taunting. Her friends no doubt were threatened by her stunning good looks and accused her of trying to steal their boyfriends.
Even when she was honest to everyone and came out as gay the name calling continued. “‘First you want our boyfriends, now you want us’ — that kind of thing,” she explains. “I couldn’t win.”
Although Rose felt like she wanted to be male when she was younger the Orange Is The New Black star admits she’s glad she didn’t opt for gender reassignment surgery.
“I’m a woman,” she says. “I want to have babies one day, so I’m glad I didn’t make changes earlier in my life.”
The Aussie star is dating The Veronicas’ Jessica Origliasso, after they rekindled their love affair while shooting a music video for the Brisbane duo. While the two look to be very happy and in love, Rose is remaining coy when it comes to the subject of marriage.
“I don’t know. Can you imagine?” she says. “Ruby Rose in a white floor-length gown and her Hells Angels tattoos?”
One thing is for certain though, Rose can not stop gushing about her songstress girlfriend.
“She is the most amazing person,” Rose said. “We just jam every night. We just play music and sing and cook dinner, and she’s amazing. She’s wonderful. She’s always such a source of moral support for me and a moral compass,” she added.
