Salma Hayek dishes out parenting advice to mums and says there’s no excuse to not make a effort with your children.
The 49 year old actress is married to billionaire Francois Henri Pinault and together they have 8 year old Valentina. Salma is also step mum to Francois’ three children from a previous marriage.
The Desperado actress spoke to Red magazine about how she balances a busy career with a happy household. Saying it’s hard to do it all, she still believes there are no excuses for being a lazy parent.
“You have to drag children into participating in life,” she says. “It takes a lot of work and mummies are very tired because most of us work and life is exhausting, especially if you are an older mum like me, but you have to make the effort.”
All parents know how busy life can get and occasionally we succumb to screen-time for our kids to give us a moments peace to simply rest or get some things done. Whether it’s watching TV, playing on a tablet or scrolling through a phone, Salma doesn’t buy into taking the easy way out when parenting.
“Now it’s so easy to just entertain them (with a screen), and you don’t have to go through the complaining for an hour about dragging them places,” she states. “Drag them, and make them a part of your life. It’s about the human connection, and the things they can learn from participating in life. Otherwise, isolation starts to happen.”
Salma and Francois got married in 2009 and by all accounts they seem to be living a very blessed and comfortable life. The actress is full of praise on how good her life has turned out. “A good marriage, full of love, is my biggest accomplishment,” she adds. “Home is where my husband is. He is home. Everything outside of the family nucleus is an adventure that you’re living together as a couple.”
