Samantha Armytage Speaks Out About “Granny Panties” Photo For The First Time!
Six weeks on from the moment Sam Armytage was described as “daring to bare in granny undies’ the journalist has finally spoken out about just how that felt.
In a recent interview, the co-host of one of Australia’s most popular morning shows said she pities the reporter who wrote a story about her wearing perfectly normal cotton underpants, which were referred to as ‘granny undies,’ under a simple summer dress. Armytage was out running errands one weekend when she was snapped getting into her car.
The published photo made headlines worldwide for it’s non-story and for its misogynist slant.
At the time, 40 year old Armytage refused to make a comment about the image saying the matter was “with the lawyers”. Now she’s broken her silence in an interview with Stellar magazine.
“All I will say, and I haven’t said anything to date, is I actually feel really sorry for the guy that wrote that,” she said.

“I cannot imagine having such a soul-destroying job that would require you to breathlessly describe a strange woman’s underwear as your occupation. I think, ‘Poor bastard’. Imagine doing that job.”
She went on to say that although she is used to some level of fame this was something else entirely.
“I still get quite a fright when I see a photographer, which is ridiculous after four years, but it still gives me a bit of a shock,” she continued.
“What gets me the most is they are not looking for nice pictures, where you have make-up on and are dressed up. They are looking for mean pictures. Where you are bending over and there’s a fat roll, or you are getting in the car. It’s unnecessary and it’s mean.
“I think they should give me a cut of the proceeds; they are making so much cash out of me with these stupid photos.”
