Sonia Kruger Admits To Not Having School Plans In Place For Two Year Old Daughter Yet!
This week saw the return to school for kids armed with their new clunky bags and shiny school shoes accompanied by a slightly excited and perhaps frazzled looking parent. For some first time school mums and dads it was an emotional time as they bid farewell to their ‘big kids’ and then put on some big sunnies to disguise the tears.
We’ve all been there. Standing at the school gate watching them as they embark on a new chapter of their lives and yours. You think to yourself where did the time go? How could they possibly be in school already? And yet there they are. With their too big hats, and too long school pants filled with wonder and excitement about what the day ahead will hold. It’s a special moment and one that we as parents try to be prepared for.
So prepared in fact that some kids have been enrolled at their primary schools from when they were still in the womb. Channel Nine presenter Sonia Kruger’s two year old daughter Maggie isn’t one of them. The 51 year old mum says she had no idea enrolling her child at school was such a big deal!
“Apparently I should have booked her in to school at birth? What the actual?” Kruger shared her story on nine.com.au’s news site, Honey, “One thing I must tick off the list this year is enrol Maggie in school. People are starting to look at me with increasing concern when they ask me where she’s going to go and I am not able to answer them.”
“Apparently I should have booked her in to school at birth? What the actual? I was too busy learning how to keep my child alive than to think about where she would commence her education. I’m not even sure what age Maggie is supposed to go to kindy, or pre school, or prep, or early learning or whatever it’s called this week?”
Kruger continued, “But really … when did it get so complicated? When I turned six, I was enrolled in Grade 1 at my local school down the road, it was that simple … and look how well I turned out right? Can you actually start a sentence with ‘but’?”
Is Sonia Kruger right to be concerned about finding little Maggie a school or even kindy? Has she left it too late and when did you enrol your little ones in school?
