Tom Hanks is a grandfather as his 26 year old son Chet revealed he is the proud father of a baby girl!

The son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a heartfelt message explaining why he’s only come forward now about his baby daughter.

“I know I’ve not been active on the ‘Gram lately, because I’ve been figuring out my life, which is what we’re all doing, and social media’s all bulls**t anyway,” said Chet.

No disrespect to people that post their kids, I just I never wanted her to be dragged into the negativity surrounding my past.

The rapper confirmed his daughter’s birth and credited her for helping him kick his drug addiction.

“I want to share something today because it’s about to be shared anyway in the press, which is the fact that I have a daughter,” he said. “I do have a daughter, she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me, she’s the reason why I turned my life around and got sober. I’ve been sober for over a year and a half from everything.”

Chet has no immediate plans to share photos of his daughter on any social media platform.

“She’s not something to be posted,” he continued. “She’s something that I love, that’s changed my life but the fact is she’s about to be shared with everybody so I wanted you to hear it from me. It hasn’t been easy making all my mistakes in public but I’m figuring it out. I’m doing the best that I can.”

Chet’s father Hank, 60 has spoken out in the past about helping his son through his addictions and admitted that he went to rehab over the summer.

“You got to applaud the bravery and honesty when it actually comes out of your own house,” Tom Hanks said. “As a parent, you love your kids unconditionally. You support them every step of the way.”

The new father hasn’t revealed the identity of his daughter’s mother but he did take to Twitter to say “she is one of the nicest people I know.”

“I’m just thankful that my daughter has such a great mom,” he wrote.
