Mothers Don’t Get Holidays!

Why is it that mothers don’t get holidays? It is so unfair don’t you think? We do a very hard, important and demanding role and yet no recognition or even holiday leave.

I know that this role is not paid and of course due to this role not being paid, no holidays are available. So why is it that hubby on his holidays managed to sleep in for nearly every day at home and mummy was woken to organise kids and the house.

I am at the point of frustration that I am counting down the days until school goes back. This beacon of light was taken away, with the realisation that the first week back is cut short due to a public holiday, then a pupil free day, so the twins will only go to school one day in the first week. I have to wait another four days before I can get the full break of kids going to school three days a week.

It does sound sad and upsetting that I am wanting them gone, but that is not the case. I love my little angels so much that I would not want to change things, however the one thing that would be divine is some alone time, some me time, sleeping in and having a holiday to do things I want to do, and the icing on the cake would be not having to do things for anyone but yourself on those days.

I must admit that hubby did not get to do all the things he wanted to either, and of course I did not do anything on my list as well. We did have a lovely time together, enjoyed Christmas and had fun with family and friends, so that was done and enjoyed.

Do you sometimes feel that your only escape as a mother is when kids are at school or care? Why can’t hubby suggest to take the kids somewhere on the weekend? This alone time might allow you to feel more relaxed and enjoy a hobby or two?

Maybe it is just the fact that you have to organise it? Again wouldn’t it be nice to not have to do for a change? Or who cares, maybe if you organise then it will happen so then everyone is happy. You can have your time and so can he. You swap days and weekends, so then no one is missing out.

I think I will give it a go and see what happens, it could work out a treat. At least this way I get some much needed rest.

What are your thoughts? Have you been counting down the days the kids go back to school? Do you feel ripped off as a mother that you always miss out on a holiday?
