A name I believe sets you up for life. When you introduce yourself one of the first impressions is your name. In The Telegraph they published “The weirdest baby names of 2012” and there were some very odd ones indeed.

The article did mention that no matter what you think of these names, keep in mind that nearly all of the names have been given to at least two children so be kind.

Some choices for boys were: Jedi, Turbo, Ball, Google and Hippo.

Some choices for girls were: Thinn, Sanity, Admire, Yoga, and Jury.

This list got me thinking, what are some names that you would not name your child and what are ones that are acceptable? I for one come under the traditional names for kids and people, and love older names that are not as popular as they were 100 years ago. Although these are not the run of the mill names, they are still very average so not new or different.
I am not against new names but I do find naming a child Hippo a bit out there, and not sure what that is saying to the child or how it will affect them in years to come. Depending on what middle name a child has that might be the choice for them if they don’t appreciate what you have given them.

My girls both have middle names and if they decide to go by that, it is up to them. It is a personal choice what to name someone and some kid’s suit new and wonderful names. These people might be the entertainers and artists of the new generation. Who’s to say that the name will not be their way to market themselves or be a point of difference from the others that are out there?

I do understand wanting to be different and not have say, five Steve’s in the same class. When I went to school there were five Maria’s and the teacher had to give each Maria a number to keep track. Having a unique name certainly makes it easier, but can also hinder. I just hope that it is a positive outcome for all.
