FFS: Teacher Scolds 9 Year Old Girl for Giving an I Love You Note

FFS: Teacher Scolds 9 Year Old Girl for Giving an I Love You Note

“Kiss me”, he said.

I offered up my cheek.

“No, on the lips”, he commanded.

I was 6 and that was my first kiss. From Danny DeRosa. In the classroom, at recess. That’s how we rolled back then.

I caught up with a friend of mine yesterday and she had a disturbing story to tell me.

She had missed a phone call from her nine year old daughter’s teacher the previous afternoon and it was too late to call him back. She was really worried what it could be about so she packed the kids into the car, early, instead of letting them take the bus and went and found him.

The problem? Her daughter had been caught passing a note to a boy that said; ‘I Love You.’

I sat there waiting for the rest of the story but she didn’t go on. I said and?

She said, well that isn’t allowed.

I said, “What do you mean, that isn’t allowed? That she’s not allowed to pass a note or she isn’t allowed to say I love you to a boy?”

She said, it was what was on the note. Apparently the teacher thought it could be seen as bullying to the boy who received it, OR non-inclusive to the other children.

I said, (with my jaw dropped open) what. the. actual. fuck? How could it be either of those things and why can’t she express her feelings to a boy and how is that bullying and how is that non-inclusive? So, what – she has to love EVERYONE?

She said “The worst thing is – Lucy is the kind of kid who never, ever expresses herself or shows much affection towards people and I was proud of her that she’d done it. Now she feels dumb and embarrassed and he has totally squashed her intentions.”

How have we gotten to this point in…I don’t know…political correctness? Fear of what? I don’t get it.

I was, and remain, in disbelief.

Somebody please explain to me, how this is bullying OR non-inclusive of other children? Anybody?
