Hubbster’s Rude Awakening…at 3.30am

As I have mentioned, once or twice before, last weekend I packed my little suitcase and flew to Sydney for the ‘Pregnancy, Babies & Children’s Expo.’

I admit, I did feel a little apprehensive about leaving Hubbster to look after all three children all weekend, despite also knowing that he was more than capable.

Even though my MIL offered to take The Woo for the weekend, to lighten the load, Hubbster assured me that he didn’t need any help.

I think he was determined to not only prove himself capable of solo kid-wrangling, but was determined to out-do me in the housework department also.  (Not a great accomplishment, I admit).

He would show me how easy it was to take care of everyone and make the house sparkle!

(Having said that though, I did shop for some very easy to prepare dinners for my absence, and organised the children’s clothing for the next day and packed their day- care bags before I left to minimise the stress of the morning mayhem).

Unfortunately (for Hubbster) The Woo and Foghorn thought they might just throw an unplanned spanner in the works of Hubbster’s domestic harmony.

At 3.45am, in the peaceful darkness of my hotel room, my mobile rang out its familiar tune to signal that I had a text message.  With bleary eyes I felt around for my phone.

Hubbster had woken in the middle of the night to find that the boys were having something of a celebration in their bedroom.  They had emptied their neatly packed day care bags onto their carpet, along with most of the contents of the fridge.  A dozen eggs, 2 litres of milk, 7 yogurts, an uncooked pork roast, the entire contents of the cutlery draw plus every photo album they could get their hands on in the house was strewn around their room!!!

My eyes almost popped out of my head as I tried to focus on the photo message he had sent.

 What the…?

As I placed my mobile on the bedside table next to me and shook my head in disbelief, I must admit, just a very small part of me was secretly grateful for this timely reminder for the Hubbster that things in the domestic realm, might be just a little more difficult than he had expected.

One thing is for sure, the huge clean-up he had planned, began a whole lot sooner than he  had imagined!

(P.s.  He did a fab job though, and both the house and kids were all in tip-top condition when I got home on Sunday evening!)
