Mum of Three Discovers Link Between Y Chromosome & Shoe Fetish

Men have long since marvelled at and bemoaned women’s love of shoes.

I’ll admit to having a rather extensive collection myself, back in the days of old, before children and mortgage payments took priority.  Sadly, my current shoe stockpile now consists mainly of practical, comfortable (boring) styles, with a few strappy heels lurking lazily in the back of my wardrobe for special occasions.  Unfortunately the fewer ‘special occasions’ you attend, the fewer legitimate excuses you have for purchasing stripper party heels.  Mores the pity!

However, it seems that I may just have a predecessor in the ‘shoe-love’ department.

Today is Bubble’s birthday.  My beautiful baby girl has turned two.  (Happy Birthday Sweetheart!)

This morning, my mum called to wish her granddaughter a Happy Birthday before she set off for work.  The conversation went something like this:

Nana: Happy Birthday Bubble.

Bubble:  Hi Nana.

Nana:  Are you two today?  What a big girl!

Bubble: Yeah!  Hi Bampy.

Bampy in the background clearly on loudspeak shouts ‘Happy Birthday Bubble.’

Nana:  Did Mummy give you your card to open?

Bubble: Yeah

Nana:  Nana and Bampy put some money in there so Mummy can take you to the shops and you can pick a special present, ok?

Bubble:  ‘k!

Me:  What do you say Bubble?

Bubble: Cankooo Nana.

Nana:  Ahhhh.  Good girl.  What are you going to buy at the shops?

Bubble: SHOES!!!!  More shoes!

Yes that’s right.  I said she just turned two…not twenty two!

Bubble in her favourite shoes, ‘cos there’s no place like home…or shoe shops!

It’s true.  She loves shoes.  After a spectacular tantrum one day whilst out shopping I have learned to steer clear of shoe shops or aisles with shoes in them, unless I am actually buying a pair for her.

One is never too young to develop a love of shoes it seems!

Happy Birthday Bubble, we wish  you live a long and happy life filled with love, health and happiness…and beautiful shoes!

Has your ‘shoe collection’ changed at all since becoming a parent?

Jolene enjoys writing, sharing and connecting with other like-minded women online – it also gives her the perfect excuse to ignore Mount-Washmore until it threatens to bury her family in an avalanche of Skylander T-shirts and Frozen Pyjama pants. (No one ever knows where the matching top is!) Likes: Reading, cooking, sketching, dancing (preferably with a Sav Blanc in one hand), social media, and sitting down on a toilet seat that one of her children hasn’t dripped, splashed or sprayed on. Dislikes: Writing pretentious crap about herself in online bio’s and refereeing arguments amongst her offspring.
