Time for a Little Self Reflection

Well, as some of you may know, today I attended the Official Bloggers Brunch organised by Kids Business & televised by Room to Grow.  (I am secretly very smitten with the word ‘official’ at the start of the title, as it makes me feel absurdly proud to have been one of the fifty ‘influential’ blogger mums who were invited!  That’s right, lil’ ol me!  Eeeek.  Even though the day is almost at an end, I still have little teeny-weeny butterflies flittering around my innards paired with a huge sense of accomplishment.

Although my family would probably pinpoint me walking through the door with not just handfuls, but bags and bags full of gorgeous goodies (which I will get to when I am not so tired from train and tram journeys) as the highlight of the day, my favourite part of the day was…(no not the food)…but the motivational speakers.

It was difficult not to feel in awe of some of these fabulous, intelligent, confident women there today.

Although some confessed to suffering from nerves, luckily for them only the front row would have seen their leg-wobbles, and others visibly shook, I had a great degree of admiration for them for not only standing in front of everyone and talking, but doing it with passion.  There was a phenomenal amount of wisdom imparted in a relatively short time, and with a great degree of emotion.

Some of the stories we heard today such as the one about post-natal depression, took courage to share.  Some of the speakers displayed and shared their passion for what they do and re-ignited the same passion in others who had felt the spark waning.  Some of the women talked about their trials, tribulations and triumphs on the way to their success.  All of the women shared their knowledge in the hope of helping others.

Today, not only did I leave my home and my children for the day, and got to mingle with the outside world (woo hoo), but I also left behind some of my self-imposed setbacks and difficulties, thanks to these women.

I am proud to have been in attendance today (albeit as a newbie) and look forward to meeting with these same (and more) incredible mums in the future.

The world is, as they say, our oyster.  It is there for the taking, should we decide to step out of the comfort of our own shell and take it.

As one very wise speaker said today, often the only thing holding us back, is ourselves.

Jolene enjoys writing, sharing and connecting with other like-minded women online – it also gives her the perfect excuse to ignore Mount-Washmore until it threatens to bury her family in an avalanche of Skylander T-shirts and Frozen Pyjama pants. (No one ever knows where the matching top is!) Likes: Reading, cooking, sketching, dancing (preferably with a Sav Blanc in one hand), social media, and sitting down on a toilet seat that one of her children hasn’t dripped, splashed or sprayed on. Dislikes: Writing pretentious crap about herself in online bio’s and refereeing arguments amongst her offspring.
