While most of us were over the moon when Bindi Irwin won Dancing With the Stars, former Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone had some harsh words for the 17-year-old.
On Channel 9’s The Verdict on Wednesday night, host Karl Stefanovic decided to end the show with a nice message to Bindi, congratulating her on her win.
“I wanted to end on something light and fun and given what she’s been through, my feel good story is Bindi Irwin up there on the stage over there in America dancing up a storm, god love her. And she’s just a really special person; she’s made me cry a couple of times, she’s made me laugh.”
Amanda obviously couldn’t see what all the hype was about saying, “Give me a break. She’s not the only kid whose father has died. My father died when I was young; it happens to lots of kids. It doesn’t make her special. How many years ago did her father die?”
The rest of the panel were pretty unhappy with Amanda’s comments, with journalist Peter FitzSimons pretending to call Bindi and say: “Hello Bindi, Amanda said get over it.”
