Big Brother’s Ben Zabel admits that he doesn’t think he can be saved – 5 months after trying to take his own life.
Former Big Brother star Ben Zabel and fellow BB star Tim Dormer have been touring the United States together.
The journey of self-discovery uses Ben’s passion for his musical idol, Elvis Presley as a cue for their activities but encourages the pair to voice their mental and emotional concerns.
In a ten-part web series documenting their quest to discover the meaning of happiness, Tim breaks down when his long-time friend admits that he doesn’t think he can be saved.
Five months ago, Ben was rushed to hospital for a drug overdose and has been open about his mental health issues ever since.
‘I think today made me feel like a failure,’ Ben says in a sneak peek clip from The Graceland Happiness Project. ‘And I don’t see a way in which that’s going to change, which makes me feel like I can’t be saved.’
While Ben, who suffers from depression and anxiety, agrees the experience won’t make him happy, he still hopes to gain something from the introspection accompanying their travels.
‘I don’t think this trip will make me happy, that doesn’t mean that I won’t enjoy it because I have been, but I think this trip will maybe shine a light on why I’m unhappy,’ he says.
Humbled to have been the one by Ben’s side, Tim said in the statement: ‘I thought Ben was going to have one of these life changing moments that travel often brings, that he’d come back a happier person.
‘But what surprised me was that visiting these childhood dream places wasn’t the therapy Ben needed, it was having someone to share them with’.
