Cate Blanchett hints at past lesbian relationships.

Aussie actress Cate Blanchett has revealed in an interview with Variety magazine that she has had ‘many’ intimate relationships with women.

The interview was to promote her new movie, Carol, which she plays a bisexual woman in.

The interviewer asked her if this was her first turn as a lesbian.

“On film, or in real life?” she replied coyly.

Not expecting her answer, the interviewer asked for more information, asking if she’d had relationships with women.

She replied: “Yes. Many times.” However, she declined to elaborate.

The film is based on the 1952 novel The Price of Salt and and has been in the making for 15 years. Cate admits that she didn’t know if the independent film would ever be released.

“Mid-range films with women at the centre are tricky to finance. There are a lot of people labouring under the misapprehension that people don’t want to see them, which isn’t true.”

It will make its debut at the Cannes Film Festival next week.
