Elle Macpherson has revealed what the reason behind the release of her super supplement last year was for – a cancer scare.
ELle, 51, said she turned her life around after finding a lump on her breast on her 49th birthday.
“I thought I had cancer. I was away shooting Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model, so I couldn’t see my doctor and I was really panicking,” she told Mail Online.
“It was four weeks before I got the biopsy results, so it was a long-drawn-out and stressful period of not knowing. I was lucky — it was a fibroadenoma [a benign growth of fibrous tissue], but it was a really big warning. I did some soul searching and realised that maybe I was taking the wrong vitamins and minerals, not eating properly and was too stressed.”
Elle then realised that she was only getting about four hours sleep a night and as she approached 50, she realised she needed to maintain her body “from the inside.”
“I started sleeping more, woke up with more water, ate less red meat, added more fruit and vegetables and within weeks I felt like a completely different person,” she said. “I didn’t realise how these relatively small changes to my routine could make me feel and look so much better.”
Following her health scare, Elle set up WelleCo with her Australian business partner Andrea Bux.
With the help of Dr Laubscher and a team of doctors in Australia, she developed The Super Elixir and The Super Elixir Nourishing Protein powder.
“The Super Elixir Nourishing Protein is an alkalising base of pea and sprouted brown rice protein with all nine amino acids sourced from the smoothest organic ingredients,” she said.
