Fans were left heartbroken when it was revealed that Patrick Dempsey, who played Derek Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy wouldn’t be returning for the shows 12th season.
The question of everyone’s lips is, can it survive without him?
Long-running cast member Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey says, “yes!”
The show is about to enter it’s 12th season and Ellen says she isn’t planning on going anywhere anytime soon.
“It has been such a journey, you know. It’s been 12 years. And I think more than the acting experience of it, it’s just been an education. I’ve learned a lot about being an actor and about being a good person and a team player and a good mother. I’ve learned so much about life from this journey”, she says.
And how does she feel about playing a widow and single mother in the upcoming season?
“I think this is a very important human story to tell. So many people lose their spouses. A lot of people feel like they can’t get up again. And so you tell that story about how life goes on after what you think is impossible (and that) is something so many people can relate to. If we give anybody, even one person, a bit of comfort or open their eyes to a new idea, make them feel some new joy when they thought they couldn’t again, that’s a story worth telling.”
Grey’s Anatomy returns to Channel 7 on Monday at 10pm.
