‘I Had a Baby Shower and a Maternity Shoot for My Huge Ovarian Cyst!’

‘I Had a Baby Shower and a Maternity Shoot for My Huge Ovarian Cyst!’

After being diagnosed with a 28cm ovarian cyst, Racquel decided to host a baby shower for the growth she named Cystiana. While some saw the funny side to the situation others called her out for being insensitive. Was she?

Sharing the news on TikTok, Racquel says the growth first appeared on her right ovary around five years ago. While it was hardly detectable at first now it’s so large, it makes Racquel look heavily pregnant.

“It just blew up. I mean it tripled in size within these last few months for sure,” she described.

But instead of letting the enormous cyst get her down, Racquel decided to celebrate it by throwing a ‘baby shower.’

Problem is, people in her life said it was wrong and insensitive to do what she did, but Raquel didn’t let that stop her from enjoying her party.

“I also did a maternity shoot… people told me it wasn’t funny – but it was the best decision ever,” she added.

“Totally inappropriate behaviour,” commented one TikTok follower. While another added: “what about women struggling with infertility? This is so wrong IMO.”

And while Raquel thought the whole thing was funny, she was keen to get the cyst removed in case it was cancerous. She had surgery on June 9th to have the growth drained and taken out of her body. After the 2 hour procedure doctors told Racquel the cyst had weighed 4.8kg and had been 28 cm by 26 cm in diameter with 4.5 litres of fluid.

“She was a big girl… stealing all my nutrients,” Racquel said, adding how relieved she was that it was benign. “Unfortunately, my right ovary and fallopian tube were too damaged! But my left ovary, tube and uterus are in perfect condition!! These kinds of cysts are super common and they don’t come back once removed! But that doesn’t mean I won’t get a new one I suppose!”
