James Packer officially opened his $4.5 billion Macau casino on Tuesday night, and for only the second time, he stepped out at the major event with girlfriend Mariah Carey on his arm.
The casino opening also featured the world premiere of the most expensive-ever short film, The Audition, starring Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese and Brad Pitt. Brad Pitt was the only absentee from the red carpet.
The Audition was made by James’ film house Ratpac Entertainment, a joint venture with Brett Ratner.
It is estimated to have cost $100 million to make and is set in Macau, Manila and Japan.
The story centres on Martin Scorsese casting the lead role of a casino owner in a fictional movie, and intense competition between De Niro and DiCaprio, playing themselves, in trying to win the role. The premiere screening showed a big plot twist involving Brad Pitt.
The four stars are rumoured to be pocketing about $10 million each for the 16-minute film.
