It is now being reported that Jessica was dumped at the last minute thanks to a clothing conflict.
Her representative admitted there were issues over “clothing and preparation”, saying the singer was “incredibly sorry”.
Radio 2GB talkback host Alan Jones is reporting that the wardrobe problem stemmed from Jessica’s refusal to wear shoes supplied by the official race sponsor, Myer. Apparently, this issue then led to the decision to dump her at the last minute.
Jessica Mauboy is known for her commitment to her craft, but when she disappeared at the last minute before singing the National Anthem at the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, organisers were confused and not happy.
Jessica was due to sing the anthem before the big race, but when her name was announced, she was a no-show.
Organisers were lucky enough to find a last minute replacement – one of Jessica’s backup singers, Nadia Aya.
At this time, no explanation has been given as to why Jessica didn’t show, even thought she was seen later at the Emirates marquee as a guest.
‘We were very disappointed that Jessica Mauboy was on course, and didn’t perform today,’ said President Simon Lowe in a statement.
