The week has been shrouded in controversy for the normally professional and efficient Jessica Mauboy, who canned a performance of the National Anthem at the last minute at the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday.
And now, she has spoken about the real reason she was a no-show and replaced by one of her backup singers – she had a panic attack.
‘Four minutes before I am about to be walked out, people on one side are bickering with people on another side and it started to suffocate me,’ she told The Daily Telegraph. “Time stopped and I could see it all going on around me… it was really horrible.”
She said she had never experienced anything like it and was left scared by the experience.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t pull herself together in time for the performance and was replaced by her backup singer – who had only minutes to prepare herself for the important performance.
