John Travolta opens up about controversial Scientology documentary.
John Travolta has broken his silence on the new controversial Scientology documentary, Going Clear.
The doco, which is based on Lawrence Wright’s 2013 book, makes shocking allegations about Scientology, including that members were threatened and tortured in prison-like camps, forced to endure hard labour and beaten in ‘The Hole’.
John, who is a devoted Scientologist, has said that he refuses to watch the film, claiming that his time with the church has been ‘beautiful’.
“I’ve been so happy with my experience in the last 40 years that I really don’t have anything to say that would shed light on (a documentary) so decidedly negative,” he told Tampa Bay Times.
“I’ve been brought through storms that were insurmountable and Scientology has been so beautiful for me, that I can’t even imagine attacking it.”
Despite how controversial the Church of Scientology is, it has plenty of celebrity followers which has given it lots of publicity. John Travolta, Tom Cruise, Kirstie Alley, Orange is the New Black star Laura Prepon, singer Juliette Lewis and Aussie singer Kate Ceberano are some of the celebrities who all publicly support the church.
