Madonna kept her Brisbane crowd waiting two and a half hours on Wednesday night for her first show in the city on her Rebel Heart tour.
She had been due to start at 9pm local time, but the thousands of fans at the entertainment centre were advised the Rebel Heart show would not start before 10.30pm.
Finally, the crowd got what they were waiting for when Madonna made her first appearance on stage at 11.22pm.
The 57-year-old later thanked the crowd for their patience, but joked they shouldn’t have been early.
“We started late – that hardly ever happens,” she said. “You were here too early. You should have taken your time doing your hair and makeup, then I wouldn’t have been late. No one wants to come early.”
Fans were not happy – with tweets that included:
Still no Madonna on stage in Brisbane. One new Mum with a babysitter waiting just gave up. #RebelHeartTour
I’ve never slept at a train station before, thanks for giving me the chance to experience this @Madonna
Absolutely appalling @Madonna So many upset fans walked out. If you can’t show up on time or sing live, it might not be worth the effort.
Some fans were reportedly given refunds when they were told that the show was going to start at least 90 minutes late.
