Rebecca Judd Encourages Women To Have A Natural Birth Following Her ‘Horrific’ Caesarean!

Rebecca Judd Encourages Women To Have A Natural Birth Following Her ‘Horrific’ Caesarean!

Rebecca Judd is a model, TV presenter, speech pathologist, fashion designer and mum of four who loves many things and endorses a whole range of products. From promoting the latest Adairs bedding range, to her activewear brand and even her fitness coach.

One thing Judd will not endorse is a caesarian! The former AFL WAG recently gave birth to her twin boys Tom and Darcy via C-section and she hated every minute of it.

The mother of four spoke about her “horrific” emergency caesarean birth of her twin boys, and urged women, where possible, to give birth naturally.

“If you’re thinking of an elective caesar but your baby is in a normal, natural position for a natural delivery, I’d go natural all the way,” she said on her KIIS network show The 3PM Pick Up on Monday.

“Compared to having a natural delivery, it kills mate…It’s horrific,” she said. “Then when all your meds wear off later, the pain is excruciating.”

Judd’s other children, Oscar, 6, and Billie, 3, were delivered naturally so she has something to compare it to. The experience of giving birth via C-section gave Judd a panic attack which she says left her with a 12-centimetre “gnarly” scar near her pubic bone and a “ledge or sausage shelf” that she holds in a compression belt.

“Mate, it’s horrific compared to having a natural delivery. It kills, it absolutely kills. The fact that you are awake in major abdominal surgery is mind boggling and freaky.

I remember I was lying there on the operating table and I started pretty much having a panic attack, my heart was going nutso – I felt like it was jumping out of my chest.

“I remember the anaesthetist saying: ‘Whoa! You’re skipping some heart beats here’. I don’t want to hear that because then you think, ‘Far out, am I going to die? What’s going on?’, Which is completely normal. I just had a massive panic attack, because it’s all happening, there’s people everywhere, there’s these bright lights, I’m about to meet my twins. It was kind of an emergency caesar as I’d been stressed my whole pregnancy it was wild,” she told her co-star Monty Diamond.

Judd describes the end result- being her two adorable boys- as the “best thing that’s ever happened to me. I am the luckiest mum in the world”.

Now while I will happily take advice from Judd on what sheets to put on my kid’s bed or which pair of shoes go best with a particular dress I will not take much notice of her caesarean warning. Here’s why. Every woman’s experience of giving birth is different and unique to them. If I went around and told everyone to have a c-section because mine was so amazing that would be false advertising! Cause you will not be guaranteed a result like mine and you’d be stupid for thinking otherwise.

If there ever was an advocate for C-sections it would be me. I had my twin boys by planned caesarian and I loved nearly everything about it. Let me state here that I had nothing to compare it to as they were my first and I did have a deep-seeded fear of a baby exiting my nether regions let alone two!

So when my obstetrician said he only delivers twins via c-section I pretty much jumped on him out of sheer delight and relief. I made it to 37 weeks with my twins and the day they were due I got up, showered, washed my hair and drove to hospital with my husband in a state of happy nervousness.

As they were preparing me for surgery I realised the magnitude of the operation as a team of nurses and doctors started filing into theatre. I became anxious and found it really hard to regulate my breathing. I hardly remember the epidural going in but I made sure I paid attention when the nurse was putting ice on my stomach and asked me if I could feel it. As soon as I said no- that was when it all began…lots of cutting and pulling and tugging which all felt so surreal!

A few minutes later I was holding my beautiful baby boys in a state of wonderment and disbelief! The sheet separating me from the doctors putting my insides back in and stitching me up was very welcome!

I won’t bore you with all the details but I do want to say I loved my caesarian. Yes, I had pain that was managed with medication for about a week. I was left with a scar that is pretty much invisible now but it was in no way horrific!

But that doesn’t mean yours won’t be! Just like anything in life there are no guarantees so just do what is best for you and your baby. At the end of the day who cares how your baby came into the world? All that matters is they did and they’re safe! So let’s leave the baby advice for now Bec cause you’re just scaring mums off an experience that may not turn out that badly for them after all.

Did you have a caesarian? What was your experience like?

  1. Totally agree with you my cesarean was much the same as yours. It was such a peaceful beautiful experience. I feel sorry for Rebecca Judd that she had such fear going into hers
