Sarah Monahan Speaks out Ahead of Robert Hughes’ Final Appeal

Former Hey Dad child actress Sarah Monahan says her mother knew she was being molested by co-star Robert Hughes but “chose to just not do anything”.
Sarah, who was abused for years by her on-screen father on the show, has released a memoir about the dreadful experience.
She says her mother was her only support system as she grew up without a father, and “she knew” about the abuse taking place at the hands of Hughes.
“She got on the stand during the trial and said that she knew, but I guess she came from an era where it was… you just didn’t deal with it. She chose to just not do anything. I asked for help and nobody did anything. So I’ve always just… I guess I gave up on people and I probably gave up on her.”

Since Robert was convicted of 10 counts of sexual and indecent assault on four young girls, Sarah has stayed out of the media until now – releasing her memoir – Allegedly.
In the book, Sarah settles some scores including Cate Blanchett thanking Hughes’ wife, Robyn Gardiner, during her 2013 Academy Award acceptance speech.
“That was really a slap in the face to a lot of us, because we all knew that Robyn knew what was going on,” she said. “Then you’ve got someone on TV, right as we’re going to court, thanking her, and it was just such a stab in the heart.”
