School Slammed Over Eco-Friendly School Uniform Design Described As Hideous!

School Slammed Over Eco-Friendly School Uniform Design Described As Hideous!

An elite private school in Melbourne has been slammed after revealing their new eco-friendly uniforms designed by Kit Willow.

Firbank Grammar school were already known for having a rather drab uniform to begin with, but students and parents say this new design is hideous and unflattering. Not to mention the colours are reminiscent of World War II.

The design is said to be Australia’s first fully sustainable uniform and was the brainchild of Aussie designer Kit Willow.

The uniform pieces include dresses, shirts, a pleated pinafore, shorts and blazers all made from sustainable materials like organic cotton, hemp and wool. Even the buttons are made of eco-friendly corozo nuts instead of plastic.

While the uniforms may be good for the environment, the school community agrees they are not good for their kid’s well being. So upset are the parents that they’ve put together a petition asking for the designs to be reimagined. So far it has close to 1000 signatures.

“The school which prides itself with raising future leaders has made a uniform reminiscent of wartime Europe,” the petition says.

“I graduated 33 years ago and our uniforms were less, dare I say it ‘dowdy’,”’ one alum posted.

‘I fully support sustainable uniforms, but please listen to the people wearing them to make the uniform appropriate for the 21st century,” said another.

“How can we be great and confident leaders when our uniforms look back on a time before we could even vote, when women were not looked at as anything but mothers and housewives,” commented one person.

“The Firbank uniform was already known as one of the ugliest uniforms due to its colour and design… somehow they’ve managed to make it even worse!” wrote another person.

“This year has already been tough enough and now you roll out something as horrible as this?” said a third person.

In response to the backlash, the school principal has told parents they will be reviewing all comments and feedback regarding the new uniforms.

“Changing a uniform is one of the most controversial things a school can do,” principal Jenny Williams said. “I understand everyone will have an opinion and some won’t like it… all I ask is that you remember our values and respond in a manner expected from members of our community.”

What do you think of the new design? Is it a yay or nay?
