Xena Reboot Will Embrace Warrior Princess’ Sexuality

Xena: Warrior Princess is coming back to TV and this time, there will be no hiding that she is a lesbian.
The Independent is reporting that fans of the original show, which ran for six seasons for 1995-2001, will see Xena and her ‘best friend’ Gabrielle as lovers.
In a Q&A, writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach announced that all the hoo-haa surrounding her sexuality in the 90s version would be explored more openly in the reboot.

“Xena will be a very different show made for very different reasons,” he said. “There is no reason to bring back Xena if it is not there for the purpose of fully exploring a relationship that could only be shown subtextually in first-run syndication in the 1990s.”
The Hollywood Reporter announced in July that NBC was planning a reboot. It said at the time that Lucy Lawless was wanted for an onscreen role but it was unclear if she would reprise her role as Xena.
