Iggy Azalea lands top job in Australian TV – Will you be watching?
It takes a lot to make it big overseas, and sometimes even more to win over fans back on home soil. The big news in Australian television this morning is that Iggy Azalea has signed on to replace Dannii Minogue as a judge on The X Factor Australia.
The 26 year old hip hop artist, originally from Mullumbimby on the NSW North Coast, exploded on to the top of the charts in 2014 with her hit song ‘Fancy’ and is due to release her second album ‘Digital Distortion’ over the coming months.
“I really didn’t picture myself being a judge on any kind of television show but I think that actually this could be a good fit for me so I said yes,” she said.
“Initially I didn’t know but then I thought it would be good to come back to Australia and have an opportunity to spend some time there and obviously to see my family, who live in Sydney. So I think it will be a good situation for multiple reasons. I’m really excited and I don’t really know what to expect.”
Channel Seven has not yet announced a broadcast date for the eighth season of The X Factor, although it is expected to air after the Olympics which hits our screens between the 5th and 21st of August.
They are also yet to announce who else will be on the judging panel that last year featured Guy Sebastian, Chris Isaak, James Blunt and Dannii Minogue.
The multiple Grammy Award nominee has only been home to Australia a couple of times since she moved to America as a teenager and is looking forward to spending more time back on our sunny shores again.
“It will definitely be the longest I’ve been to Australia in probably 10 years,” she said. “It has been a long time.”
What do you think about the choice to include Iggy Azalea as one of the judges on the X Factor? I think it will be good for her to increase her profile in Australia. The jury is out though, on whether Australians will take to her as they have the other judges. Time will tell!
