Judge Judy-Style Spin Off Series Still in the Works for Gina Liano
Real Housewives Of Melbourne star Gina Liano, is still giving us hope for an Australian version of the US reality courtroom show Judge Judy.
The 48 year old criminal defence barrister is out of contract along with the rest of the cast of the Melbourne franchise of the popular Real Housewives reality show. And with a new series to be filmed in Sydney this year, the Melbourne franchise hangs in the balance.
It is most likely that Liano and most of the current Housewives will be signed for a fourth season, but Foxtel has yet to confirm the show’s future.
However, Gina is still hoping that her courtroom reality show, Judge Gina will come into fruition later this year. A pilot was made in December, 2014 and by all reports, Liano, says the feedback is positive.
She opened up to the Daily Telegraph about her potential new series.
“I know how to get the information out of them that I will need to make a decision. A couple of networks are looking at it at the moment and there will be discussion fairly soon, so it is still on the boil and it would be a lot of fun.”
“Both Nine and Channel Seven are looking at it and possibly Ten, according to my agent,” Liano has said.
“Foxtel didn’t commission it but that was because of budget more than anything.” Gina has said that they brought in Judge Joe Brown’s former executive producer John Terenzio to assist with the pilot.
“We flew the producer in from Judge Joe Brown, and who had worked on Judge Judy, so we had the Real McCoy working on it and I’m still in communication with him and he’s very keen to do it,” Liano said.
There is one big difference with the shows though. Judy Sheindlin and Joe Brown are former judges but Liano is not.
“A lot of them in the States (on judge reality shows) are magistrates or judges, I’m not appointed to the bench but my role would be to judge the participants, as an arbitrator,” she said. “I would be making a ruling on their dispute and it would effectively be binding through arbitration.”
Liano still wants to be a part of the Real Housewives next season and is hoping she can fit Judge Gina into the shooting schedule. Although most of her family members are happy to appear on the show her partner Dean Giannerelli wants no part of it.
“My partner doesn’t want to be part of the show so that would be a special condition of me returning,” Liano explained.
