Is Biff Tannen Really Based On Donald Trump?
With all the Back to The Future hype well and truly behind us, you may have noticed a certain similarity between resident bad guy Biff and recent US presidential candidate Donald Trump!
Biff Tannen, in Back To The Future part 2, is a casino tycoon who uses his riches to influence the Republican party. He manages to go back in time to steal a Sports Almanac and then proceed to make bets on all kinds of sporting events. Biff makes billions and decides to build a casino called the Pleasure Palace Hotel. Trump also has numerous hotels and casinos. Biff was also known to have been married and remarried on many separate occasions, just like Trump. If photos of the two are placed side-by-side, they even look alike. See!
The frown, the pouty lips and that comb over! Surely it can’t just be a matter of coincidence?
Actually it’s no coincidence at all, says Bob Gale, one of the movie’s original writers. Gale recently said that Trump was indeed their inspiration for the character of Biff.
“We thought about it when we made the movie! Are you kidding? You watch Part II again and there’s a scene where Marty confronts Biff in his office and there’s a huge portrait of Biff on the wall behind Biff, and there’s one moment where Biff kind of stands up and he takes exactly the same pose as the portrait? Yeah,” Gale said.
“Yeah. That’s what we were thinking about,” he added.
Also adding more credibility to the claim is the Internet Movie Database trivia page for the film, Trump is listed as an inspiration for the character.
Although the movie may have missed a lot of predictions about the year 2015 – i.e. Hello! Smart Phones!! It seems it got the candidacy of Donald Trump spot on!
Relive the moment Marty discovers exactly who Biff has become. Oh, the horror!
