Kids Lounge Science: Make Your Own Volcanic Slime

Make Your Own Volcanic Slime

You don’t need a laboratory and a white coat to conduct your own Science experiments! Take this exploding volcanic slime recipe for example – you probably have most of the ingredients needed in your home already! It does get a bit messy, so if you’re not too keen on having to mop up a slimy kitchen bench top afterwards we’d recommend taking your experiment outside (but really, it’s worth the effort just to see the kids’ reaction when the molten lava slime erupts!)

You will need:

PVA craft glue

Borox

Red Food Colouring (or any other colour you choose)

Baking Soda

Vinegar

Method:

Mix 1 1/2 cups of PVA craft glue with 1 1/2 cups of water in an plastic container to create a watered down glue. An empty milk container is perfect for this, as you can replace the lid and give it a good shake to mix.

In another plastic bowl add 1 tablespoon of borax to 4 cups of water.

Next combine the glue mixture and the borax mixture.  You should get a really cool slimy consistency (like GAK) when you mix it!

Add a few drops of red food colouring.  (You can use any colour of course, so don’t be afraid to substitute red food colouring with another colour you have lying around in the pantry!)

Now for the exciting part! You’re all ready to make your volcano slime erupt!

Add a tablespoon of baking soda, and a cup of vinegar, until your volcano starts to froth.

Add more baking soda and vinegar for a bigger eruption!

It is a bit messy, so you may want to conduct this particular science experiment outside.  You could even build a volcano shaped mound in some dirt or sand, hollow out the middle and conduct your experiment there for a realistic volcano shaped eruption!!!

Likes: Reading, cooking, sketching, dancing (preferably with a Sav Blanc in one hand), social media, and sitting down on a toilet seat that one of her children hasn’t dripped, splashed or sprayed on. Dislikes: Writing pretentious crap about herself in online bio’s and refereeing arguments amongst her offspring.
