Woman Uses Neighbour’s Pool for Party Without Telling or Inviting Them
Imagine coming home one day to find over 20 people in your backyard using your pool and having a party. And as if that’s not bad enough-imagine you weren’t even invited to that party- held at your own home! What would you do?
One woman wrote into Reddit to explain this very scenario and asked whether it was wrong of her to never allow them back again. Here’s what happened:
“This happened a few years ago, but I’ve always wondered about my reaction,” she explained on Reddit. “We lived on a suburban street and were the only ones on our block with a swimming pool.”
She says they allowed other families to come and use the pool anytime without asking. “It worked well for a few years,” she continued.
That is until they came home one day to a full blown party in their backyard. One they had no knowledge of.
“One afternoon I looked out and saw at least 20 people in our pool,” she wrote.
That’s when she discovered the neighbour was hosting her daughter’s birthday there.
“I was upset for a few reasons,” she said. “She didn’t ask about bringing a whole party over – and why husband and I were not invited.”
“When I mentioned this, she said that the party was ‘just family’.”
Which was a blatant lie as there were other neighbours and friends there also in attendance.
“We let them stay, as we didn’t want to upset their daughter,” she continued. “But the next day we told them they no longer could use the pool without asking.”
The neighbour accused the pool owner of being ‘ridiculous and petty’. In fact it got so heated that the mutual friends and neighbours were forced to take sides!
Which has the woman wondering if she did in fact over react.
Ummm…hell no!
The Reddit commenters agreed and we’re quick to point out how entitled the neighbour was acting.
“NTA. (not the asshole) she took advantage of your generosity,” one commented.
“What kind of a jackass brings 20 people over to their neighbour’s pool without getting express permission in advance?” another asked.
“Classic example of giving someone an inch and they take a mile,” one said.
“The entitlement is seriously unbelievable,” another noted.
“I’d invest in cameras for the yard just in case,” a third added.
