These Grooms Remember What They Were Thinking as Their Bride Walked Down the Aisle

These Grooms Remember What They Were Thinking as Their Bride Walked Down the Aisle

It’s such an amazing event for a couple — that moment when your eyes lock as you walk down the aisle towards your soon-to-be husband. Music is softly playing, all your loved ones are there, and shortly you will be married. I remember feeling excited and nervous as I approached my then-fiancé, but what was he thinking?

He doesn’t remember.

I’m interpreting that to mean he was so overwhelmed by my beauty and the thought of being my husband that he was dumbstruck and just living in the moment, suspended in time until we were actually wed.

Hey, it’s better than this…

Recently, married men of Reddit were asked what they were thinking as their brides walked down the aisle towards them. The answers were many and varied, and, I’m delighted to say, much better than my husband’s answer!

It felt like a constant euphoric rush, and one of the few times in my life that I profoundly felt that I was doing something right. We’ll be married 20 years this summer. -MrStealYourDanish

We eloped, so my first thought was “oh good, she made it.” -Top_Chef

30 years for me…I can still see her standing there…absolutely burned in my brain, along with the birth of our children. She was (and is) so beautiful…I felt (and feel) so lucky. It was like the whole world was gray, and as she walked toward me, the world became color in her path. I can’t even imagine the kind of man I would be without her. -Mrmidhoratio

“Wow she actually wasn’t joking about not wearing shoes” psycho–the–rapist

My Dad used to tell me all the time that I should try and ask out girls I thought out of my league as I might surprise myself. So I did, and then asked her to marry me, and she said yes to that as well. I was thinking of this as she came in. While she was walking down the aisle, my Dad leaned in and said “You know how this happened?” I smiled, and nodded, thinking he was pleased with his advice. He then said “‘Cos I don’t, you lucky bastard.” Dad-joked at the altar. -LoneBladeS

“…is that the Imperial March?” (She surprised me with a string quartet of the Imperial March for her walk down the aisle.) -the_anti_buddy

I was thinking, “So this is it. I’ve finally did it. This beautiful woman is mine. Wait, fuck, she’s falling. Try not to laugh. Don’t laugh. Shit, I’m laughing.” -TheMuffinguy

“don’t barf, don’t pass out, don’t barf, don’t pass out” -Herdnerfer

Damn, I can’t believe someone this gorgeous wants to marry me! braxistExtremist

“My god, she’s beautiful. Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry… Fuck. I’m crying. Oh well, maybe I can get it out now before I say my vows… She’s here. Let’s do this shit! OK, say the vows and don’t fuck up.”

I ended up having to stop in the middle of my vows because I couldn’t stop crying and sounded like a Muppet. Everyone thought I was going to puke. RiggRMortis

Look at that beautiful idiot. What a fool she is showing up here. uhhnox

I pretty much always have 3-4 things going on in my head, and an internal monologue that never shuts up, but honestly my brain kinda stopped.

I just soaked it in, watching this person I loved coming toward me. all that nervousness and excitement just stopped for a minute.

I watched her and smiled, I remember every second of it, and the closest thing to a thought I had in that moment was joy.

…brb going to go tell my wife i love her flash_freakin_gordon

So, we both waited for marriage to have sex. I kept thinking “I’m getting laid tonight!” A3rdAcct

I can say this without a doubt, because it just happened about 6hrs ago.

I had seen her before the wedding. Her hair was done, in a way that I had never seen. She had more makeup on than I would ever fathom her wearing… and it wasn’t much. (She has a beautiful natural complexion).

But when I stood there, eager to see her in that dress, and finally saw her, she looked absolutely beautiful. She looked perfect, completely flawless and walked down the aisle with the most amazing stride. All I could think is “I couldn’t imagine her any more gorgeous. Just jaw-dropping sexy and beautiful… and that is MY wife. I get to marry her. I get to spend the rest of my days.. with HER.”

And when we finally turned to face the minister… I just wanted to look at her. To devour every bit of her with my eyes.

I couldn’t take my sight off of her the rest of the evening. People would talk to me, I’d address them, but I just couldn’t stop remembering that moment when her dad came through the door with her. It was a moment I’ll cherish and never forget. -Mangonesailor

There’s only one thing we can say to that last one – get off Reddit, man!!

Have you ever asked your husband what he was thinking as you were walking down the aisle towards him? I hope you’ll get a better answer than I did!
